Biltmore Estate Temporarily Closed After Severe Flooding from Tropical Storm Helene

The Biltmore Estate is currently assessing damage and will remain temporarily closed following devastating rains from Tropical Storm Helene, which caused catastrophic flooding in the Asheville area.

“Due to significant flooding, impassable roads, and widespread power outages in our region from Tropical Storm Helene, Biltmore is temporarily closed,” read a statement on Saturday from the estate’s social media account.

How Long Will Biltmore Be Closed?

Biltmore Estate is asking visitors to check biltmore.com/weather-update for the latest updates. As of Sunday, the estate is still assessing the damage and working on plans to reopen.

Widespread Damage in Asheville Area

The Asheville region was hit hard by the storm, with severe flooding leaving thousands without power and internet. The damage affected Biltmore’s internet and cellular services, disrupting their call center.

“Our area currently has intermittent internet and cellular service, impacting our communication channels. We appreciate your patience as repairs are made.”

Biltmore Village Faces Historic Flooding

Biltmore Village also experienced unprecedented flooding. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the Swannanoa River at Biltmore crested at 26.1 feet on Friday, shattering the previous record of 20.7 feet. Major flooding, by NOAA standards, begins at 18 feet.
